Clarens – Old Mill Drift Guest Farm
Old Mill Drift Guest Farm, situated just outside of Clarens in the Free State, has to be one of the best places on mother earth for you and your critter.
Nestled in the Maluti Mountains, the farm is 666 hectares in extent. We have over 14km of river frontage at our foot and the Maluti mountains all around. All accommodation have spectacular views, some over our horses paddocks, across the Caledon River and way into Lesotho, deep into the Maluti and possibly the Drakensberg Mountains on a clear day.
Put on your takkies and you are on a hiking trail in a myriad of different directions one can walk, run, ride or drive. Or go and play in the river or tubing for 8km or 18km, or venture further afield on one of our many 4×4 trails.

PET POLICY: All well socialised horse-friendly dogs, cats, caged birds and horses (and any other pets) welcome by prior arrangement. Pets sleep inside; bring own pet beds, bedding and bowls. Pet food can be provided on request at a fee we provide: TEFF, Erigrostis and Dog Pellets. Paddocks available for horses. Bring your own covers and blankets if your dogs are inclined to jump on the furniture.
PET ENCLOSURES: Chalets 2 and 3 have their own lockable pet enclosures:
Chalet 2: has a 14 x 4m devil’s fork fence with fine mesh for those tiny tea-cup dogs. There is a gate at the back of the unit which is also accessible from the kitchen door. If you would like to go out for the day, they can have access to the kitchen and be outdoors in a lawned garden.
Chalet 3: Lawn and paved area (13 x 7m) enclosed with a devil’s fork fence with access to the Chalet through the front door.
Consideration must be given to resident dogs, cats, horses, farm animals, birds and wildlife. If your dog is well socialised and won’t chase our horses and foals (they will get kicked if they do, and we do not take responsibility for this if it happens) you can just let them run around freely with ours. If they are not, you will need to keep them on a leash at all times (unless you are away on your hikes and until you are away from our animals).
CHARGE for Pets: The first 2 dogs stay FREE; thereafter a fee of R50 per additional dog applies. If your animals will be sleeping inside and spending time in the chalets, we charge a R100 Pet-Super-Clean surcharge. This fee covers 2 pets. If you have 3 pets or more, the surcharge is R100 per pet thereafter. This is a once-off fee, not a per night fee. Doggie Damages Deposit required: R200 refundable.
