Magoebaskloof / Houtbosdorp - Kurisa Moya Nature Lodge

Detailed Information

Magoebaskloof / Houtbosdorp – Kurisa Moya Nature Lodge

Kurisa Moya Nature Lodge is a 422-hectare property near Tzaneen, Polokwane and Magoebaskloof in Limpopo Province. Kurisa Moya is perched on the edge of the Drakensberg escarpment, so it has mesmerising views out over the lowveld.

This soulful place embraces a pristine indigenous forest with massive moss-covered trees where ancient Yellowwoods carry an energy all of their own. Burbling streams make their way over boulders to the dams below.

Here, nature’s tranquillity is broken only by booming Samango monkeys, croaking crimson-winged Knysna Turacos and Bushbuck barks. Kurisa Moya has mountains, rivers, indigenous forests and bushveld and offers accommodation in 3 unique venues – each private and tranquil.

You could book a Forest Lodge cabin, 3 metres up in the canopy of the indigenous forest, surrounded by magnificent trees, animals and birds. Alternatively, soak up the views at the earthy Thora Boloka Cottage on the mountain’s edge overlooking Kudu’s River Valley.

Alternatively, the Farmhouse is perfect for family get-togethers or fun weekends away with a group of friends. It has 5 en-suite bedrooms, a huge kitchen, lounge and diningroom, a wrap-around patio and private gardens with plunge pool. Each venue is kitted out for self-catering, or meals can be provided for you. Activities, tours and transfers can be organised.

PET POLICY: Well-behaved hounds are very welcome at Kurisa Moya’s Farmhouse or Thora Boloka Cottage.  The 422-hectare farm is a fabulous environment for dogs to explore as long as they are bush smart don’t run off after animals they encounter. The venues are NOT fenced so dogs cannot be left alone there. 4 hours from Gauteng, Kurisa Moya Nature Lodge is a wonderful environment for dogs with the right temperament.  The Lodge has 3 unique venues situated in indigenous forests, private gardens or on the mountainside.  Privacy and tranquillity is emphasised in these electricity-free retreats (solar and gas appliances and geysers). Self-catering or catering provided. Small dogs are welcome in the Forest Lodge Cabins. Large dogs are welcome in Thora Boloka Cottage or The Farmhouse. No barking or aggressive behaviour towards other guests. Easy access to walks – the property comprises 422 hectares of natural forest & bushveld so dogs need to be kept on leashes in the Forest or should not be wanderers. Consideration must be given to the Lodge staff, who are generally nervous of dogs. Please Note: there are wild animals on the farm, some of which are dangerous when confronted by dogs. Animals and birds are NOT to be chased by dogs. Please ensure your dogs have had recent tick prevention treatmens as there are many ticks in the long grass. Bring your own pet beds and bedding. Dogs are not allowed on the furniture, please! There is a small extra-cleaning fee for pets.

Whichever venue you choose, you can be sure of privacy, tranquility and the sense of having your soul restored. There is something powerfully restorative in being surrounded by ancient trees in an untouched forest and by being all alone in this tranquil place. Silence, peace and beauty all combine to restore the soul. There are very few places these days where you can drive for a few hours, stay for a weekend and return to real life with a feeling that your spirit is full to the brim and that the world is a magical place.
