Smithfield Rufpatch
Rufpatch offers comfortable, clean, well-priced self-catering accommodation with boundless garden and open views of Smithfield’s mountain. It is ideal for a relaxed stop-over en route to your holiday destination, or for a break to recharge your batteries.
This sprawling vintage house has four self-catering units, each with its own bathroom and self-catering facilities. This means we can accommodation four separate groups, each quite independent. Some of the units can also be opened up so that they interlead and make a variety of configurations which makes this a perfect solution for large groups travelling together.
We also offer space (with great views) for caravanning and camping.
The Units
The Sonkamer is an extra-large room with a double bed and three singles, a sitting area, a dining area and an enclosed grassy courtyard making it an excellent choice for families with little children (or dogs). It has a bathroom with a bath and a shower over the bath as well as basic self-catering facilities.
The Wisteria unit has a large main bedroom with a king size bed (or two singles), a sitting room (with TV), a full kitchen and a bathroom with shower.
The Ou Kombuis is a charming double-bedded unit with direct access to the garden – excellent for people with mobility issues. Bathroom with shower. Basic self-catering facilities.
The Voorhuis is a two-roomed unit with a queen size bed in one room and two singles in the other. Bathroom with shower. Self-catering facilities. Its grassed garden is fully enclosed with traditional high poles so it’s perfect for people travelling with pets.
- Braai
Let us know in advance if you’d like to braai so we can organise facilities for you. But we’re also close to the town’s restaurants in case you don’t feel like cooking. Two of the rooms have a west facing patio from which you can enjoy sundowners while watching legendary Free State big sky sunsets over the mountain. Bedding, including towels, is provided in all the units.
Rufpatch is a smoke-free, environmentally-friendly, zone, and we encourage guests to help us keep it that way.
We don’t take credit cards.
If we have advance notice we are happy to include friendly dogs among our guests.
PET POLICY: All dogs welcome all year round by prior arrangement. Dogs may stay with you in your room provided they are tick- and flea-free and well behaved. Our gardens are fenced and there’s a safe place for dogs to potter right across the road. The local golf course is also dog-friendly (if your pet is well-behaved) just ask us for directions. Or your dogs may like to join you as you walk in the veld or on the hills and they may even like to swim in the town dam. Please remember that you should book ahead for any canine guests: we need to give the resident dogs ample notice. Pets stay FREE. Doggie Damages deposit required: NONE.
